In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, we invite you to enjoy delicious Caribbean cuisine, impactful exhibits, and powerful performances—all to support a safe, supportive home for women and children in recovery.

This year’s luncheon aims to raise essential funds to establish a transitional living home for families overcoming the challenges of incarceration and substance use. COGO is dedicated to creating a nurturing space where mothers and children can heal and rebuild through programs focused on holistic wellness across eight dimensions.

  • Special Guest Speaker: Leshia Chandler, MA,HSP, Deputy Director of Family Services and Director of Frederick County's Local Management Board, will share her vision for a stronger community and address the importance of reducing stigma around mothers in recovery.

    Environmental Wellness Insights: Kaili Van Waveren,MA, CTP, GC-C, CMIP Executive Director of ThorpeWood, will discuss sustainable practices for mothers in recovery and ways to care for our planet, inspiring children and families to live in harmony with nature

    Silent & Live Auctions: Featuring young artist De'mi Brown, who will auction her painting celebrating the resilience of children with parents impacted by substance use, capturing a child’s view of strength in adversity.

    PhotoVoice Exhibit: Led by Dr. Laura Sherwood, this moving exhibit captures real stories of mothers in recovery, giving them a platform to reclaim their narratives, build self-esteem, and find pride in their journeys.

    Performances: Barbara Pinnock, PRS, CM, Reiki & Sound Practitioner, Executive Director, of COGO will lead us in a serene opening ceremony, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the therapeutic power of sound healing. Join us as we create a peaceful space for individuals to unwind, rejuvenate, and find solace through a guided sound bath experience.

    Enjoy a performance to honor MLK by Elixir School of Dance led by founder Natalie Clasper-Thompson, followed by a beautiful ballerina performance. The soulful vocals of Jaleesa "JayBaby" Cowan, a singer-songwriter and dedicated youth mentor, will add a heartfelt touch to the day’s events.
